ChatGPT Plus was worth it before, less so now
I subscribed to ChatGPT Plus during my heavier usage period, and at the time, it genuinely felt worth the twenty dollars per month. Faster responses, better models, and fewer rate limits made a real difference for daily work. However, the AI market has moved fast. Other assistants now offer comparable or better capabilities, sometimes at similar price points with more generous limits. I canceled my Plus subscription after finding tools that fit my workflow better. If you are a new user just exploring AI, the free tier is enough. If you are a power user, it is worth comparing alternatives before committing - the landscape has changed a lot, and OpenAI needs meaningful upgrades to retain users.

Good at answering, not great at problem-solving
After about a year of daily use, I noticed ChatGPT's biggest limitation isn't accuracy - it's that it only answers exactly what you ask, and nothing more. When I ask a question, I get an answer. But when I actually need a solution, I have to ask multiple follow-up questions to get there. Other AI assistants I've tried since then tend to anticipate what I actually need and deliver a complete solution in one go, which saves a lot of back-and-forth. ChatGPT also occasionally gives confidently wrong information, which I learned the hard way when researching health topics. It's still useful, but you need to verify things.

The AI that introduced me to the AI era
I started using ChatGPT in early 2025, and it was my first experience with any AI assistant. I still remember how genuinely impressed I was - I could ask almost any question and get a reasonable answer back in seconds. That was magical at the time. I used it for everything: health questions, translations, blog writing, even drafting business plans. For a while, it felt like having access to a knowledgeable assistant 24/7. It's an important product historically, and it does a solid job across a wide range of tasks. But after trying other AI tools, I now see ChatGPT as the gateway product rather than the best one.
